How to Find the Right Location for a Trading Card Vending Machine

A vending machine only earns if it sits somewhere people actually stop, wait, or browse. Before you approach anyone, know exactly why a specific location works for a specific machine. This guide covers where to look, what to check, and how to open the conversation.

Where trading card machines tend to work

  • Card and hobby shops: Built-in collectors and repeat visitors. A machine can also sell after hours.
  • Game and comic stores: A ready TCG audience.
  • Conventions and trade shows: Lots of foot traffic and impulse buying.
  • Gas stations and convenience stores: High traffic, often long hours.
  • Malls and shopping centers: Families and collectors.
  • Bowling alleys and family entertainment centers: People waiting, and repeat visits.

A 10-minute scouting checklist

  • Foot traffic: Visit at different times of day and count how many people walk by.
  • Dwell time: Do people wait or linger nearby?
  • Visibility: Is there a spot where the screen is easy to see from the entrance or main aisle?
  • Power: Is there an outlet close to the spot you'd use?
  • Connectivity: Our machines use WiFi and 4G, so check that there's a reliable signal.
  • Hours and access: When is the venue open, and when can you restock?
  • Safety: Is the spot supervised or easy to keep an eye on?

Approaching the owner

Confirm you're talking to the person who decides what goes near the counter. Keep your opening short: who you are, what you're proposing, and what's in it for them.

  • Lead with their upside. A machine earns them something from space they aren't using, and it costs them nothing to try.
  • Offer to handle everything: delivery, setup, stocking, and service.
  • Make it low-risk. Offer to remove the machine if it isn't working out.
  • Be ready with the terms you'd propose. See our post on revenue share vs. flat rent.
